What Black Moon Lilith Actually Is
There are three Liliths in modern astrology — asteroid Lilith (#1181), Dark Moon Lilith (a hypothetical second moon), and Black Moon Lilith. Black Moon Lilith is the one most readers mean. It is not a body. It is the empty focus of the Moon's elliptical orbit — the apogee, the point where the Moon is farthest from Earth and her gravity weakest. In the natal chart, this empty point carries enormous weight. It marks the part of you that was banished, the desire you were taught to apologize for, the knowing the village burned for knowing.
The myth: Lilith was Adam's first wife in the older Hebrew texts, made of the same earth as him, who refused to lie beneath him and left the garden rather than submit. She is the woman who chose exile over subordination. The placement in your chart names where you were asked to make that same choice — and what happens when you finally stop making the smaller version of it.
The 2026 Sagittarius Transit
Black Moon Lilith is currently transiting Sagittarius (December 2025 – September 2026), then moving into Capricorn through 2027. Sagittarius rules teaching, publishing, religion, and higher meaning. This is a collective unmasking of suppressed truths, persecuted prophets reclaiming voice, and the long-buried question of whose knowledge gets to count as legitimate. Whether or not you have natal Lilith in Sagittarius, the transit asks: what have you stopped saying because the congregation might walk out?
See the dedicated Lilith in Sagittarius page for the full transit reading.
Sign Versus House
Lilith's sign describes the flavor of the wound — the archetypal story of the exile. Lilith in Aries is about persecuted will and raw anger; Lilith in Pisces is about the silenced mystic. The sign tells you what was punished.
Lilith's house describes the arena — the life domain where the punishment keeps happening and where the sovereignty work plays out. Lilith in the 7th house runs through committed partnership; Lilith in the 10th house plays out in career and public visibility. The house tells you where you keep meeting the wound.
Reading both gives you the full picture. The sign sets the theme; the house sets the stage. The same Lilith-in-Scorpio reads very differently in the 2nd house than it does in the 12th.
